School counselors are here to help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

Your School Counselor CAN

  • Help develop an academic program plan 

  •  Interpret cognitive, aptitude and achievement tests

  • Provide counseling to students who are tardy or absent

  • Provide counseling to students who have disciplinary problems 

  •  Provide counseling to students as to appropriate school dress 

  •  Analyze grade-point averages in relationship to achievement

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling services to students

  • Advocate for students at individual education plan meetings and school attendance review boards 

  • Interpret student records

Your School Counselor CANNOT

​

  • Provide therapy or long-term counseling in school to address psychological disorders  

  • Coordinate paperwork and data entry of all new students

  • Coordinate cognitive, aptitude and achievement testing programs 

  • Sign excuses for students who are tardy or absent

  • Assign disciplinary consequences
