Your School Counselor CAN:

Help develop an academic program plan

Interpret cognitive, aptitude and achievement tests

Provide counseling to students who are tardy or absent

Provide counseling to students who have disciplinary problems

Provide counseling to students as to appropriate school dress

Analyze grade-point averages in relationship to achievement

Provide individual and small-group counseling services to students

Advocate for students at individual education plan meetings and school attendance review boards

Interpret student records
Your School Counselor CANNOT:

Provide therapy or long-term counseling in school to address psychological disorders

Coordinate paperwork and data entry of all new students

Coordinate cognitive, aptitude and achievement testing programs

Sign excuses for students who are tardy or absent

Assign disciplinary consequences
